From November 25 to December 1, 2024, the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution (INC-5) was held in Busan, South Korea. During this time, Hunan Vary Tech Co., Ltd. was invited to participate in the INC-5 side event, showcasing China's innovative practices and technological breakthroughs in the field of waste plastic recycling and utilization to the international community, contributing Chinese wisdom and technological strength to the global governance of plastic pollution.

The event is jointly organized by the Beijing Entrepreneurs Foundation for Environmental Protection (SEE Foundation), the Green Recycled Plastic Supply Chain Joint Working Group (GRPG), the Shenzhen Zero Waste Environmental Public Welfare Development Center, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the All-China Environment Federation (ACEF), with the theme "Local Action, Global Impact: Solutions and Experiences of Chinese Social Organizations in Addressing Plastic Pollution." Representatives from China's industrial sector, academia, and social organizations, along with international peers, gather to deeply discuss and share practices in plastic pollution management.

As the world's largest producer and consumer of plastics, China attaches great importance to the prevention and control of plastic pollution. Through systematic policy measures, it has established a comprehensive governance system for plastic pollution and has achieved significant results. As a leading enterprise in the field of solid waste resource utilization in China, Che Tao, the deputy general manager and general manager of the Equipment and System Service Division of Vary Tech, highlighted the company's technological innovation and practices in the field of chemical recycling of waste plastics at the side event.
Plastics are widely used in various fields around the world, with a vast and ever-growing variety, ranging from common plastics to composite materials, posing a significant challenge for pollution control. Vary Tech has independently developed an oxygen-free pyrolysis technology and equipment, which can efficiently process a variety of mixed waste plastics and convert them into valuable oil, gas, and carbon resources, providing a comprehensive and efficient one-stop solution for addressing plastic pollution from different sources.
Vary Tech's development in the field of chemical recycling of waste plastics is a process of continuous innovation and breakthroughs. Since 2009, the company has demonstrated a forward-looking vision, laying the foundation for technological innovation through international exchanges in the United States, Russia, Japan, Germany, and other countries. In 2013, the company achieved a significant breakthrough in waste plastic pyrolysis technology, building a project capable of processing 60 tons of waste plastics from household garbage daily, which verified the technical feasibility. After 2016, the company entered a period of rapid development, and the scope of technology application expanded to over 30 types of solid waste treatment. In 2018, the company made a qualitative leap, constructing a project capable of processing 600 tons of waste plastics from domestic sources daily, with the core pyrolysis technology equipment's daily processing capacity increased to 150 tons per unit. The breakthrough in production capacity stems from the mastery of core technologies of the pyrolysis equipment, including continuous feeding and discharging, flexible combination sealing, self-cleaning coking, heat carrier circulation, and the cascade utilization of thermal energy. The technology has been iteratively upgraded to the 6th generation, achieving perfect oil and gas sealing performance, effectively preventing any leakage, and significantly improving safety and environmental friendliness. To date, the project has been operating stably for 5 years. In 2023, Vary Tech's independently developed electromagnetic pyrolysis furnace was first put into operation in South Korea, used for treating waste plastics and waste tires, marking the company's chemical recycling of waste plastics moving towards international development and opening new opportunities for global plastic pollution management.

Li Bin, deputy director of the GRPG office and a senior researcher and doctoral supervisor at Donghua University, stated that chemical recycling is the ultimate method for converting plastic waste into stable raw materials, and showcased the industrial application cases of Vary Tech's core equipment for chemical recycling of waste plastics.

Vary Tech has also achieved outstanding results in the field of physical recycling, complementing its chemical recycling technology. In 2009, the company innovatively introduced a combined process of "double-shaft shredding + vertical crushing," leading the development of the waste home appliance recycling industry. After seven generations of technological iteration, this process has now achieved an impressive capacity of up to 200 waste refrigerators processed per hour per set of equipment, with a plastic sorting rate exceeding 97%, and the entire process is automated and intelligent. The company has further expanded the application of its technology, extending recycling services to the small home appliance sector. The equipment can process up to 3 tons of waste small home appliances per hour, with a plastic recycling rate of 99%. This advanced process has laid a solid foundation for the subsequent high-value application of waste plastics, effectively promoting the development of physical recycling technology and providing key technical support for the efficient and high-quality recycling of waste home appliance plastics.

The company has also established an electronic waste resource recycling and disposal base, achieving coordinated development of technology research and operations, with an annual processing capacity of up to 8.3 million units, ensuring harmless treatment and efficient resource recovery of waste home appliances. In 2018, Vary Tech made a significant breakthrough in the high-value utilization of waste home appliance plastics, developing advanced processes for crushing, cleaning, and melting, transforming waste home appliance plastics into high-quality recycled pellets. This innovative process has obtained GRS 4.0 certification, and the recycled materials produced are widely used in the manufacturing of small home appliances, computers, laptops, mice, and other products, achieving high-value circular utilization of waste plastics.

Currently, the company has an annual capacity of crushing and cleaning waste plastics of 100,000 tons and a granulation capacity of 50,000 tons. Through these innovations, Vary Tech has successfully established a complete physical recycling loop for the recycling and reuse of waste plastic from household appliances.

The appearance of Vary Tech at the INC-5 side event not only showcased the innovative capabilities of Chinese enterprises in the field of plastic pollution control but also contributed Chinese wisdom to promoting the international agreement on global plastic pollution governance. As a leader in the industry, Vary Tech will continue to leverage its technological advantages, deepen international cooperation, and contribute technological strength to global plastic pollution.
At this critical moment when the world is collectively addressing the challenge of plastic pollution, the innovative practices of Chinese enterprises undoubtedly inject new confidence and momentum into the international community. As the INC-5 progresses in depth, we look forward to seeing more Chinese solutions shining on the global stage, driving the cause of global plastic pollution governance to continue moving forward.
